YIA English Division was
established and began operating in its present location July 1997.
Mr. Henry Cho originally
set up the school: ordered the first curriculum (primarily what
was called Sonlight curriculum but was designed for a home school
type of set-up; and YIA now operates in a school setting not a
home setting. So, the curriculum did not well serve our purposes
at YIA English Division. The other textbooks and other books we
had were primarily xeroxed. This method of receiving textbooks
and other materials was totally unsatisfactory and against all
copyright laws. Beginning with the 2000 school year, YIA English
Division will have a complete scope and sequenced curriculum for
kindergarten through tenth grade. Beginning with the 2002-2003
school year, a new curriculum will be in place for grades eleven
and twelve, possibly sooner if enrollment warrants. The first
faculty (1997-1997) consisted primarily of volunteer mothers who
had little or no training in Western education.
Beginning with the 1999-2000
school year, we had Western trained teachers in most areas of
the school. The need for Western trained teachers is a continuing
concern. In the fall of 1998, however, a Western trained administrator
and one teacher began serving.
During the 1999-2000* school
year, the enrollment by grades was as follows: Kindertarten: 3
First grade 3 Second grade 3 Third grade 3 Fourth grade 7 Fifth
grade 2 Sixth grade 3 Eighth grade 2 *There were six home-room
teachers and three (sometimes four) part-time teachers.
